WYD Brazil 2013 video interview with bergoglio

WYD Brazil 2013 video interview with bergoglio

Here is another video interview with bergoglio in 2013.

"This is the first worldwide interview that Jorge Mario Bergoglio gave as the new Pope Francis. This interview was given to a popular Sunday night show in Brazil on July, 28 2013, during the World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The questions were asked in Portuguese and the Pope answered in his native Spanish and all the dialogue has been translated and subtitled to English."

I wasn't aware of the existence of this video until I stumbled upon it today.

I watched the entire thing -- almost 1/2 hour -- to see if there was any evidence of dementia.

While there is a certain amount of "rambling" in bergoglio's replies, he always comes back to the topic of the question from the interviewer. So I would say -- no, there doesn't seem to be evidence of dementia.

Given that, I would suggest that perhaps bergoglio had a "little too much to drink" in the interview with filmmaker Solanas in November 2013.

Still -- if that is the case --- then this is the first pope who grants recorded interviews while drunk! Not a good papal first....

On the other hand people with early stages of dementia can have good days when they make more sense and bad days when they are nearly unable to carry on a conversation.

Either way.... it's not a good sign for the papacy when we have to choose between him being drunk and him being senile in order to explain bergoglio's behavior.

BTW, there was one troubling remark in the WYD interview from July 2013 in light of all this. At the time I gave it a different interpretation....

The Brazilian interviewer asked him why he decided to stay at the Casa Santa Marta instead of at the papal apartments.

bergoglio responded that it is for "psychiatric" reasons.... oh boy.... was that a "hint"?
